Worldcoin implements a new self-custody strategy for personal data, ensuring that user data does not leave personal devices
ChainCatcher news, Worldcoin announced the implementation of a Personal Custody strategy for personal data, a move recommended by privacy experts and introduced as an advancement with World ID 2.0. Personal data custody means that the information generated by the orb during the World ID verification process (including images, metadata, and derived data) will be stored on the user's device. This approach allows users to control the flow of this data—not just deleting it, but also any future use before deletion.
Additionally, Personal Custody unlocks new use cases for World ID in high-security applications by enabling facial authentication. Facial authentication allows users to verify at any time that they are the same person who obtained the World ID during verification at the orb. Importantly, this process is completed entirely locally on the user's device, with no data leaving the phone.
