OpenAI plans to launch GPT-5 in the middle of the year
ChainCatcher news, according to BUSINESS INSIDER citing informed sources, OpenAI is expected to launch the next version of its flagship AI tool ChatGPT—GPT-5—around mid-year, possibly in the summer.
Since the last major model upgrade to GPT-4, the tool has encountered performance issues. It is reported that the upcoming GPT-5 will have "substantial improvements" in performance. OpenAI has already demonstrated the latest model and its related enhancements to some enterprise clients. According to a CEO who has seen the GPT-5 version, "It's really good, with substantial improvements." OpenAI has also showcased other unreleased capabilities of the model, including the ability to call AI agents under development to perform tasks.
Although there is currently no confirmed specific release date for the new model, OpenAI is completing the training of GPT-5 and will conduct internal safety testing and further "red team testing" to identify potential issues before making it available to the public.
