Gitcoin announces restructuring, shifting focus to funding infrastructure designed for the Ethereum ecosystem
ChainCatcher news, according to Blockworks, the open-source software funding platform Gitcoin has announced that it will shift its focus from funding public goods to strengthening the funding infrastructure designed for the Ethereum ecosystem. As part of the new restructuring plan, Gitcoin has established two business units internally. One unit will focus on coordinating work on specific products, while a subDAO will manage community and governance affairs.
Gitcoin Executive Director Kyle Weiss stated, "The DAO will transition from independent workflows to a structure more akin to Labs. This is common among existing protocol development teams, similar to how Uniswap has Uniswap Labs or Optimism collaborates with OP Labs. We want to ensure stability in software development and then provide the DAO with a substantial scope of work. By empowering software development teams with greater leadership and clearer decision-making authority, the community can continue to focus on achieving results through the token voting funding program."
Since its launch in May 2021, Gitcoin's organizational hierarchy has remained relatively flat, without a CEO issuing commands. Workflows, which are focused groups responsible for specific tasks or projects within the organization, have always required community voting to approve budgets, which is often a time-consuming process. However, as the DAO has evolved, it has transformed from an influence-centered organization into a more technology-centered one. Gitcoin Executive Director Weiss stated in an interview that this does not align with the existing DAO structure.
