Zhu Su, co-founder of the failed crypto hedge fund Three Arrows Capital (3AC), stated that he had the "best sleep" of his life during his three-month imprisonment in Singapore.

The 36-year-old man was initially sentenced to four months in jail but was released early due to good behavior and related regulations.

Experiencing the Joy of Ancestors

In a video interview, Zhu Su mentioned that his time in Singapore's prison was "very enjoyable."

"Obviously, no one wants to go to jail, but I think overall, it was actually a very pleasant experience."

"It's not quite at the level of a strong recommendation yet, but I think it would definitely be beneficial if everyone experienced it once."

He said that being in prison allowed him to experience "the entertainment activities of ancient people," such as reading and doing push-ups.

"You can read all the books you want, and prisoners get 'a lot of fruit' every few hours."

A Good Night's Sleep

"The quality of sleep was excellent."

Zhu Su said that lights out was at 9:30 PM, and they had to wait until 5:30 AM to turn them back on. Without alcohol, caffeine, or the internet, he would fall asleep immediately after lights out, enjoying what he described as the "best sleep" he has ever experienced.

Due to the lack of beds in the prison, he had to sleep on the floor, which he said "is like… a Japanese tatami mat, really good for… decompressing the spine."

Zhu Su also described his time in prison as having a "very magical feeling," where he felt a "kinship" with his ancestors.

Arrested in September 2023

According to Bloomberg, Zhu Su was arrested on September 29, 2023, while attempting to leave the country at Changi Airport. He was sentenced to four months in prison for failing to cooperate with 3AC's liquidation tasks, such as shutting down the business, selling assets, and repaying creditors.

Management consulting firm Teneo estimates that Three Arrows Capital owes creditors a total of about $3.3 billion, while the liquidators are seeking to recover $1.3 billion from Zhu Su and his co-founder Kyle Davies.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore also imposed a nine-year ban on both founders due to 3AC's violations, including failures in risk management and providing false information.

Kyle Davies is under the same detention order as Zhu Su but is currently missing.

Before its collapse, Three Arrows Capital was considered one of the largest and most successful cryptocurrency hedge funds.
