The "Argentinian President Milei," who calls himself an anarcho-capitalist and is a Bitcoin enthusiast, sparked global attention with his latest speech in Davos yesterday. Many entrepreneurs praised Milei's speech content on social media.
On January 15, the 54th World Economic Forum opened in Davos, Switzerland, in the Alps. Leaders from about 60 countries and multinational companies attended this year's Davos Forum. One world-class entrepreneur, Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, did not appear at this year's Davos Forum. However, he did not stop paying attention to the speeches at the forum.
Musk has been a regular at the Davos Forum in the past; last year he posted on X that he declined the invitation to attend Davos. However, the organizers stated that he has not been invited since 2015.
In January last year, Musk wrote on X: "We shouldn't be obsessed with the Davos World Economic Forum; they take themselves too seriously, so it's fun to mock them." He also spread some conspiracy theories related to the World Economic Forum and the "Great Reset."
The World Economic Forum is in full swing. Musk utilized his AI chatbot Grok to publish a new article on X, "attacking" World Economic Forum Chairman Klaus Schwab, with his tweet indicating "Grok roasting Klaus Schwab at the World Economic Forum."
However, Musk had nothing but praise for one of the speakers at Davos: Argentinian President Javier Milei. When he shared the full 23-minute video of Milei's speech in a post on X, he stated that the speech "explained very well what makes a nation prosperous or not."
As of now, the tweet has received 39.69 million views, 290,000 likes, and 63,000 retweets. Currently, Musk's X account has the most followers, with nearly 170 million followers. On October 26, 2022, Musk acquired Twitter for a staggering $44 billion, becoming the new president of Twitter. On July 24, 2023, Twitter's new brand logo X was launched, and the original "little blue bird" logo became history.
Two hours later, Milei retweeted Musk's content on social media X, expressing, "@elonmusk thank you very much!!!"
Milei won the shocking election in November 2023, marking his first speech on the global stage. In his speech, he stated that Western developed countries are under threat because those "who should defend Western values are controlled by a worldview that inevitably leads to socialism, resulting in poverty."
Musk has previously expressed admiration for Milei, who has been implementing a radical economic transformation plan while cracking down on public protests. The billionaire once wrote on X that after this self-proclaimed "anarcho-capitalist" was elected, "Argentina will usher in prosperity."
Milei is a president favored by the blockchain and crypto community. Whether during his presidential campaign or in his writings and speeches on Austrian economics, he has wisely aligned himself with Bitcoin supporters. For example, he has claimed that "Bitcoin can eliminate central banks," and even made radical statements about "blowing up the central bank" and using the dollar as the country's currency. Looking back, such radical statements may have helped him garner votes from the Bitcoin audience. Additionally, Milei's disheveled hair, outspoken personality, and advocacy for classical liberalism have quickly made him a sensation in the Argentinian media.
World Economic Forum founder Schwab stated that Milei's "radical approach" brings a new spirit to Argentina.
As early as 2017, Milei mentioned the potential of Bitcoin, praising its technology for reclaiming monetary sovereignty from central banks. In 2019, Milei admitted that he had not yet studied Bitcoin in depth. In 2021, he called Bitcoin an "impeccable concept."
Milei's speech at this Davos Forum primarily impacted the crypto audience on social media, including Coinbase founder Brian Armstrong. He retweeted the full text of Milei's speech, stating, "This is why cryptocurrency needs to win—it will spread economic freedom globally."
