U.S. presidential candidates and Coinbase's Chief Legal Officer criticize the decision to revoke SBF's second trial
ChainCatcher news, U.S. prosecutors do not plan to conduct a second trial for FTX founder SBF, as some charges against him (including foreign bribery and bank fraud charges) have been dropped, and prosecutors have also decided not to pursue a charge of illegal political donations. (Note: SBF donated to a large number of Democratic and Republican politicians. Prosecutors had accused SBF of using customer funds for $100 million in political donations.)
Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated, "No one is surprised. This is a bigger issue than the fraud itself. It shows that corruption has become normalized." Elon Musk replied to the same post: "!!". Coinbase's Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal stated that the decision to drop the charges is "judicial injustice." "The public interest in a public hearing of the charges is almost always significant. Campaign finance allegations are a top priority. What politicians and others knew and when they knew it are key questions that deserve answers."
SBF's sentencing is currently scheduled for March 28, 2024.
