Sotheby's Head of Digital Art and NFTs: Auction Sales Approaching $35 Million in 2023

ChainCatcher news, Sotheby's Vice President and Head of Digital Art and NFTs Michael Bouhanna posted on the X platform that the 2023 auction reached nearly $35 million in sales, launching a fully on-chain secondary market to fulfill creator royalties. Sotheby's held its first dedicated live auction, which achieved $12 million in sales. Sotheby's set a historical record for digital art auctions in 2023: Dmitri Cherniak's work Ringers #879 (The Goose) sold for $6.2 million.

It is reported that Sotheby's held over 25 auctions specifically focused on digital art or incorporated it into contemporary art auctions; launched a new generative art project Gen Art Sotheby's powered by Art Blocks Engine; and auctioned Ordinals inscriptions for the first time. Next year, Sotheby's will focus on supporting creators and enhancing their primary market strategy. More updates are coming soon.
