ChainCatcher message, Arweave founder Sam cited a reliable source on Twitter stating that the Arweave ecological storage solution Irys (formerly Bundlr Network) is planning to fork Arweave, will no longer maintain datasets, reset token supply, and ignore the protocol evolution mechanism. The ar.io network plans to remove Irys bundlers from the trusted settings of the Arweave main gateway, which will lead to significant delays before user data becomes available. Sam will open an X Space to discuss this event.

Sam believes that for a permanent storage network, forking should be done by preserving and building state, rather than destroying state, as this will only lead to the inability to achieve permanence of information, with all data being periodically discarded. Sam thinks that the only reason for the Irys fork could be greed. Currently, with the support of the ar.io network, Forward Research is running a free Arweave bundler service, which will continue to be provided after user migration. Users who wish to use the free Arweave bundler service only need to change the Irys node URL in the code to https://up.arweave.net.
