U.S. Space Force Major: Bitcoin has "national strategic importance"
ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, U.S. Space Force Major Jason Lowery stated that the United States needs to formally investigate the use of proof-of-work networks like Bitcoin (BTC) to protect the nation from the threats of cyber warfare, and hopes that the U.S. military will prioritize the investigation of proof-of-work systems like Bitcoin in national defense.
In a four-page letter to the U.S. Defense Innovation Board on December 2, Jason Lowery explained that while Bitcoin is primarily viewed as a "monetary system" for securing funds, few people realize that Bitcoin can also be used to secure "various forms of data, information, or command signals."
It is reported that the Defense Innovation Board is an independent advisory committee aimed at bringing Silicon Valley's technological innovations and best practices to the U.S. military. Jason Lowery used this letter to urge the board to recommend that the Secretary of Defense investigate the "national strategic importance" of proof-of-work systems like Bitcoin.
