xPet: A new social game that merges DeFi with electronic pets, completely integrated within Twitter
Author: Shenchao TechFlow
Currently, the Social sector has sparked a wave of electronic pets.
The afterglow of Fren Pet has not yet faded, and another upgraded version of the pet-raising game—xPet.Tech—has recently quietly exploded in popularity. Let’s take a look at what it is and whether there are opportunities and gameplay for zero-cost participation.
Product Exploration
xPET is a mini-game based on Arbitrum, with gameplay similar to Fren Pet, requiring players to feed, accompany pets, and ensure their survival to help players earn token rewards.
The difference from Fren Pet is that xPET uses a browser extension to play the game, rather than being a "home screen" game like Fren Pet, which means xPET has more potential for strong interaction with Twitter.
xPET is linked to Twitter, and users need to bind their accounts with Twitter, which is one of the prerequisites to start the game. After binding the account, the system will randomly generate a virtual pet for you in the same browser interface as Twitter.
It is worth noting that all your operations in this game are closely tied to Twitter in the main view. You can interact with your pet, such as feeding, upgrading, and unlocking more scenes, while browsing Twitter.
At the same time, the pet generated earlier will appear in the lower left corner of your Twitter webpage, moving around the main interface and menu of Twitter.
Therefore, while previous Friend.Tech and Fren Pets leveraged Twitter's social relationships to create their own applications, xPet can be said to be completely parasitic on Twitter.
It manifests within Twitter, allowing players to raise pets while socializing, sharing the same browser interface.
Gameplay Analysis
The pets in the game interact with Twitter. Players can discover daily treasure chests while browsing Twitter, which is also why they call themselves SocialFi 2.0.
What is the daily treasure chest?
This is one of the innovations made by xPET, and it is also the game steps for zero-cost players:
Since players bind their Twitter accounts at the start of the game, they have the chance to receive treasure chest rewards while browsing Twitter. The treasure chest icon will appear below the user’s avatar, and by commenting "Xpet," you can open the chest twice a day.
In addition, new players can also receive a free newbie treasure chest reward by simply following their official Twitter account and liking and retweeting the corresponding tweet to complete the treasure chest task.
From this step, it can be seen that xPet's gameplay essentially "gamifies" the product's launch and promotion steps, giving users a direct and concrete reason to post or retweet on Twitter.
By posting, your pet will receive rewards and grow, without significantly disrupting your normal Twitter social media activities, while also providing an additional emotional value, which is the biggest impression xPET has left on me so far.
Moreover, returning to the treasure chest itself, the rewards included are:
BPET: The in-game token, which holds significant value within the xPet.Tech ecosystem.
Food: Necessary to keep pets well-nourished and healthy.
Broom: An important tool to maintain a clean and tidy environment for your pet.
Needle: Used to treat pets when they feel unwell, ensuring their health and happiness.
Shield: Protective items to keep your pet safe from potential harm.
The rewards obtained from the treasure chests can be seen as resources needed to maintain the normal operation of xPET pets. These resources are consumed over time and in proportion, and players will need additional investments and tasks to replenish them.
On the other hand, regarding earnings, how do pets earn BPET tokens for players?
In xPet.Tech, each player will have a virtual farm. This farm is a dedicated space for your pets, where they engage in production activities to generate BERRY, which can be converted into BPET. There are three ways to increase BPET output:
Upgrade pets: The higher the pet's level, the more BERRY it produces.
Upgrade tools: By upgrading the tools available in the pet farm, they can work more efficiently, thus increasing BPET output.
Upgrade factories: Factories will automatically convert BERRY into BPET for you. Note: This feature will only be unlocked when your pet reaches level 10.
So the way for paying players is very simple:
Go to the in-game market to buy high-level pets (the market will charge a 0.5% transaction fee),
Upgrade tools and factories,
Buy food to keep pets healthy.
Token Economy
The token economy of xPET.Tech is different from other games; it not only exists within the game but also has a complete external economic flywheel.
First, one way to earn tokens in the game is through ETH zero-interest lending of xPET. This means players can borrow xPET to obtain tokens.
In other words, the game has its own economic system corresponding to the gameplay, while also introducing DeFi and lending designs, establishing connections with mainstream crypto assets outside.
Under this design, the game will clearly adjust the lendable xPET based on supply and demand, which will actually form a market price for the in-game tokens.
Additionally, the game also offers staking opportunities. Players can put their BPET tokens to use and earn additional BPET interest, with players free to choose the staking duration based on their needs. Of course, the staking period directly affects the rewards you will receive, as shown in the figure below:
This design makes the token economy of xPET.Tech more diverse, providing ways to earn tokens within the game and offering lending and staking opportunities outside the game, giving players more choices and flexibility.
Therefore, from an economic design perspective, xPet is not merely a social game but a comprehensive game that integrates social and DeFi elements.
In terms of the specific economic model of the token, BPET is equivalent to unlimited output, with a total supply of 300 million xPET, of which the ecological fund and community allocation account for the largest shares, 40% and 30% respectively, with detailed distribution as shown in the table below:
Roadmap
xPET.Tech has completed the basic functions displayed in the roadmap, including user authentication, pet creation, pet care functions, staking, borrowing, and swapping.
In the future, the project team plans to make adjustments and optimizations to existing functions based on community feedback and introduce additional gamified elements to enhance user engagement and retention.
Additionally, the project team plans to seek strategic cooperation or partnerships to promote the development and influence of xPet.Tech.
Overall, xPet is a light electronic pet game that is parasitic on Twitter and comes with DeFi. Its low participation threshold and expected returns will inevitably spark discussions and participation in the early stages;
However, whether the project can be sustainable, whether the revenue model will collapse, and whether the input-output ratio for participants can remain healthy, still remains to be seen over time.
