SBF's former cellmate reveals: SBF was threatened with extortion in Brooklyn jail
ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, crypto KOL Tiffany Fong recently interviewed former Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) inmate Gene Borrello, who revealed that Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) became a target for extortion during his pretrial detention at MDC due to his timid nature and "the physique of an 80-year-old man."
According to Borrello, there were inmates who tried to make SBF feel scared in order to extort protection money. "They wanted Sam Bankman to feel like 'it's dangerous here, you need protection.'" However, Borrello stated that SBF was placed in a unit at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center that was separate from general inmates, which included wealthy individuals and government cooperators.
Borrello recalled that when he spoke with SBF, SBF appeared very timid and nervous. He also asked SBF how he spent his wealth. "I asked him, 'What do you do with your money? What watch are you wearing?' He said, 'I have an Apple Watch.' I asked, 'What car do you drive?' He said, 'A 2020 Toyota Camry.'"
