Bitfinex encountered a "minor" phishing attack and will notify affected users
ChainCatcher news, according to The Block, Bitfinex suffered a "minor" information security attack, with hackers able to access "partial, incomplete, and outdated information." It is reported that the hackers deceived a customer support staff member who had "limited access to support tools and help desk tickets" through phishing.
According to this release, the hackers failed to access any core systems, and user funds were not affected by this attack. Bitfinex stated that affected users will be notified, although most of the impacted accounts are "empty accounts or inactive accounts." They plan to cooperate with law enforcement to track down the attackers.
