Cryptocurrency-friendly Congressman Tom Emmer is running for the position of Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives
ChainCatcher news, according to The Block, U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer from Minnesota has maintained a friendly stance towards cryptocurrency but has been critical of regulators. Emmer announced his candidacy for House Speaker on Sunday, along with eight other candidates, including Florida Republican Congressman Byron Donalds and Texas Republican Congressman Pete Sessions. The vote is scheduled for Tuesday.
House Majority Whip Emmer has introduced several bills over the past few years, including one that creates a new definition for tokens and another that prohibits the Federal Reserve from directly issuing CBDCs. He also supports a bill that takes a comprehensive approach to cryptocurrency regulatory frameworks while criticizing SEC Chairman Gary Gensler for his "harassment-style regulatory approach" to digital assets.
Earlier reports indicated that the U.S. House voted to remove House Speaker McCarthy, making him the first House Speaker in U.S. history to be ousted. Cryptocurrency-friendly House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry has been appointed as the interim House Speaker.
