ChainCatcher news, in response to a Cointelegraph interview, Bitcoin developer Super Testnet stated that the purpose of BitVM is to expand Bitcoin, rather than to launch decentralized financial applications similar to Ethereum on the network.

The BitVM white paper was released by Robin Linus, the project lead of ZeroSync, on October 10, and was technically supported by the anonymous developer Super Testnet, who implemented the first proof of concept for BitVM and is committed to expanding its capabilities. After the release, some industry experts believe that BitVM will bring DeFi to Bitcoin, just as the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) did for Ethereum.

Super Testnet stated that building a decentralized trading platform on Bitcoin would be a step backward. BitVM focuses on scalability rather than implementing smart contracts and issuing a large number of altcoins; the real killer application is to scale Bitcoin. Additionally, BitVM can fix a flaw in the Lightning Network.
