ChainCatcher message, zkSync announced today at 18:00 an upgrade to the behavior of block.number, block.timestamp, and blockhash on zkSync Era. After the upgrade, block.number, block.timestamp, and blockhash will return the L2 block number, timestamp, and hash value, respectively. The upgrade is expected to last 40-60 days, during which the block production rate and timestamp refresh time will gradually increase.

zkSync reminds developers that if a project has critical logic dependent on the return values of block.number, block.timestamp, and blockhash, it may face unexpected behavior (e.g., shortened governance voting time, surge in rewards, etc.).
