ChainCatcher news, the founder of Polygon tweeted that POL is a large-scale technical upgrade of MATIC, providing the benefits of multi-chain staking without increasing the risks of re-staking.

The Polygon 2.0 plan aims to expand the Polygon ecosystem from a single chain to multiple interoperable L2 chains. For example, Polygon POS will become one of the L2 chains. Validators can provide various services between the hub and the L2 chains, such as securing the hub, generating proofs, batch processing transactions, and more.

The design of the POL token is intended to support validators in playing more roles and participating in more chains within the Polygon network. Holders of POL can stake POL at the hub to validate any L2 chain, while also participating in other activities such as generating proofs to earn higher rewards, without needing to transfer staked assets again.

POL is an innovation in the field of re-staking:

1. POL supports "wrapped re-staking," avoiding reliance on third parties;

2. POL can be used not only to secure the chain but also to ensure the safety of layers like Agg, DAC, etc.
