The Unbroken Spell

This summer, a word exploded in the crypto circle ------ Zuzalu. Zuzalu is a pop-up city experiment initiated by members of the Ethereum ecosystem. Over the course of two months, scholars, crypto practitioners, and researchers from various industries gathered to discuss longevity, public goods, zero-knowledge proofs, artificial intelligence, as well as philosophical reflections on coordinated governance and crypto city-states.

The introduction of UGC tools and easy-to-learn full-chain game engines has made it possible to create high-quality, highly playable, and highly flexible on-chain games.

Zero-knowledge proofs have unlocked the potential of blockchain, achieving large-scale adoption in privacy, rights confirmation, and reducing computational costs. However, zero-knowledge proofs originated in the last century and are not a unique innovation of the crypto field.

Through these three stories, a hidden line becomes clear: blockchain is not solely a technical or financial attribute; the industry is exploring and innovating to consider the possibilities of blockchain's real-world applications.

But this path is fraught with challenges.

What is mu?

Mu is a lost continent in the Pacific, much like Plato's imagined Atlantis, shrouded in mystery. The mu civilization is known for its technology and culture, and possesses a strong spirit of openness. They actively share knowledge, creating a profound impact ------ it is said that mu is the common origin of great civilizations such as Egypt, Greece, Central America, India, and Myanmar.

Currently, the crypto world and the real world are two separate realms, each an island; the former indulges in collective self-amusement, while the latter starves in confusion.

We want to change this. We believe that blockchain technology is one of the tools to solve real-world problems. Since 2014, blockchain has been continuously releasing its potential to change human society, and more and more blockchain practitioners realize that the large-scale application of blockchain must move off-chain, into the real world. Blockchain is not the goal, but a tool. And this singularity moment has not yet arrived; how can we get closer to this singularity?

Thus, we initiated muChiangmai------

An Unmissable Developer Event in the Asia-Pacific Region

A pop-up city uniting dev communities for long-term projects committed to creating a better future

From September 15 to October 31, over a period of one and a half months, we will gather developer communities from the Asia-Pacific region in Chiang Mai, Thailand, to co-live, co-learn, and co-build, creating a tech-oriented pop-up city. Stripping away the superficiality of elitism, we will build a mapping relationship between on-chain and off-chain as the virtual and real worlds intertwine.

We will invite:

25+ technical mentors engaged in cutting-edge development

30+ outstanding independent developers from around the world

30+ global developer communities

Of course, the entire event is also open to the local community in Chiang Mai, with no permission required for entry, which is the fundamental spirit of blockchain~ (and also the spirit of mu!!)

We look forward to muChiangmai achieving the following actions:

1. Gather and unite the developer community to form a broad alliance

The world's largest blockchain event, Devcon 7, will be held in Southeast Asia next year. We need to prepare for this and explore the developer community. For developers in the Asia-Pacific region, this is a warm-up party for developers.

2. Support the development of long-term projects

Most Hacker Houses and Hackathons produce a bunch of award-winning one-off projects. What if we start from 1 to 10, and then from 10 to 100, instead of going from 0 to 1 and back to 0?

In addition to learning theoretical knowledge and starting from scratch, we propose a new path: incentivizing developers to contribute to open-source projects.

Experts and mentors from well-known blockchain projects such as Starknet, the Ethereum Foundation, Waku, Dojo, Gitcoin, and Kakarot will provide technical guidance, participate in this experiment, and jointly cultivate a community that transcends the boundaries of the crypto world.

3. Use blockchain and cryptography to solve real-world problems

What sets our hackathon apart is that we will focus on existing problems that society, government, and ordinary users want to solve, and conduct thematic hackathons together.

Teams composed of mentors, developers, and local developers will utilize their expertise to collaboratively solve real-life case studies and develop projects that benefit the public.

Theme Introduction

muChiangMai has six different themes. They include popular topics such as ZKP and full-chain games, while also addressing directions pointing to the real world.

A Glimpse of the Offline Space

About the Office

During this one and a half months, we will collaborate with Chiang Mai's most atmospheric digital nomad space, PUNSPACE, to provide a comfortable working environment for participating developers. PUNSPACE offers a fully equipped co-working space, including high-speed Wi-Fi, meeting rooms, coffee stations, and printers. PUNSPACE is conveniently located near many cultural landmarks and great food.

About Accommodation

We will provide free accommodation for mentors and developers, within a 5-minute walk from PUNSPACE. Free spots are limited, so act fast (registration form below?)
