ChainCatcher news, according to Asiatoday, the South Korean National Intelligence Service announced at a press conference that North Korean hackers were involved in a $180 million cryptocurrency attack in the first half of 2023. Since 2015, North Korea has illegally stolen over $1.5 billion in virtual assets. Among them, the North Korean hacker group Lazarus Group is one of the largest cryptocurrency hacking organizations.

Entities related to the cryptocurrency payment processor Alphapo, CoinsPaid, stated that the company suffered a $37 million attack last month and suspects that the Lazarus Group orchestrated this attack. The U.S. government has listed Lazarus as the main perpetrator of the $600 million hack on Ronin last year. Chainalysis pointed out in a report in January 2022 that the Lazarus Group was also involved in the 2020 hack of the Kucoin cryptocurrency exchange, as well as a hack of another unlisted exchange in 2018.
