Vitalik: The personality proof represented by Worldcoin is very valuable, but it faces four key risks
ChainCatcher news, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published an article today titled "What do I think about biometric proof of personhood?" expressing his views on biometric proof of personhood.
He stated that, in principle, the concept of proof of personhood seems very valuable, although various implementations come with their risks, but having no proof of personhood at all also carries its risks: a world without proof of personhood seems more likely to be dominated by centralized identity solutions, money, small closed communities, or some combination of the three.
Vitalik pointed out that the four main risks faced by Worldcoin are: privacy, accessibility, centralization, and security. He also shared insights on preventing coercion in biometric recognition systems and preventing the renting/selling of IDs.
Vitalik proposed some possible solutions to address the issues of privacy, accessibility, and centralization in biometric identification systems, but he also acknowledged that some of these issues may be fundamental limitations. The Ethereum Foundation is making positive efforts in this area, looking forward to a digital identity solution that is both reliable and respects privacy.
