The UK Intellectual Property Office has released guidelines for the classification of trademarks for NFTs, virtual goods, and services in the metaverse

ChianCatcher news, according to the UK government's official website, the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) released a trademark classification guide for NFTs, virtual goods, and services in the metaverse earlier this month. The UKIPO does not accept NFTs as a standalone classification term but accepts terms like "digital art certified by NFTs." Physical goods certified by NFTs can be classified into appropriate product categories.

In addition, virtual goods will be treated equally with physical goods, but applications for virtual goods will only be accepted if they are clearly defined. Regarding virtual services, the guide states that if a service can be provided virtually, the UKIPO will continue to accept such services, but this approach may not apply to all metaverse services, especially when a service in the metaverse does not fall under the same category as traditional delivery forms.
