From April 5 to 8, 2023, the ETH Beijing Hackathon will be held at MetaSpace, China's first Web3 Metaverse café located in Wudaokou, Beijing. This hackathon is co-hosted by PKU Blockchain DAO and WTF Academy, a Web3 open-source university, with support from the non-profit Ethereum organization ETHPlanet and the Ethereum Layer 2 solution Scroll. The event has also received sponsorship support from ten well-known industry institutions, including the Ethereum Foundation ESP, Scroll, and Bixin Ventures.

When asked why this event was initiated, PKU Blockchain DAO President & WTF Academy Founder 0xAA shared with the international community during an interview with the Ethereum Foundation ESP Devcon team: "China has just opened up to the world after three years of pandemic lockdown. Ethereum Builders in China have not held local events for years, and China has become the most underrated community globally. We are eager to meet in Beijing and bring the energy back!"

Initially, the supporters of the ETH Beijing Hackathon were mainly community members from PKU Blockchain DAO and WTF Academy. Now, in addition to support from blockchain associations from over 20 top universities in China, including Tsinghua, Fudan, Zhejiang University, and Hong Kong University, we have also received support from tech communities such as DoraHacks, Whale Hunting, dapplearning, and Tintinland.

Sponsors such as Ethereum Foundation ESP, Scroll, Bixin Ventures, Token Pocket, Starkware, Mask Network, LD Capital, Cocos BCX, Aspecta, and Galxe have provided many forms of assistance beyond just sponsorship for this event. Even more excitingly, core members from several well-known projects and VCs, including Consensys and Chainlink, will also be present at the event to co-build the strongest hackathon in ETH Beijing.

Since the official launch of the event on February 21, after three rounds of selection, 150 outstanding developers from both the Chinese and international communities have emerged from 400 applicants. Selected participants will receive free meals, and students from non-Beijing universities will also receive accommodation and travel subsidies.

Participants will develop projects in three main tracks: public goods, Layer 2 innovative applications, and open research, as well as the Scroll and Bixin sponsor tracks, during the 72-hour competition. The winning teams in the finals will not only compete for prizes worth over $30,000 but will also have opportunities for subsequent investment and incubation.

During the event, a mentor and judging committee composed of organizers, co-organizers, sponsors, and supporting communities will provide on-site technical guidance to participants. This includes but is not limited to 0xAA-WTF Academy & PKU Blockchain DAO, Bob-Gitcoin, Master Cui Mian-Whale Hunting, EO-FutureMoney Group, Frank Kong-Chainlink, Haynar-Galxe, Haoyun-ETH Planet, Kiwi-PKU Blockchain & OKX Ventures, Li Dongxuan-Bixin Ventures, Laura Shi-ConsenSys, Leo Yang-Starknet, Leo-Catcher VC, Uncle Li-AWS, Lin Chuan-PKU Blockchain DAO & ABCDE Capital, Nyk Ma-NextID, Pano-Cocobcx, Sabrina Tan-Aspecta, Yi Tang-Qiming Ventures, Warren-Token Pocket, Xi Wang-Bixin Ventures, Young-Scroll.

This event aims to provide an ultimate hackathon experience for Ethereum developers and researchers! Let the world see the talents of Chinese Builders! Looking forward to seeing everyone!
