With major public chains and new projects continuously launching token airdrops, the ZK Rollup ecosystem has become the next focus for all the airdrop hunters. Currently, several projects are researching and deploying related products in the market, among which we are familiar with zkSync, StarkNet, Scroll, and Polygon zkEVM.

ConsenSys zkEVM, as a new zk-rollup network, is not as prominent compared to the aforementioned projects, but it is developed and designed by ConsenSys and operated by ConsenSys. It offers full compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The goal of ConsenSys zkEVM is to become a "bytecode-compatible level" zkEVM, making it easier for developers to build and maintain applications on Layer 2.

In addition, ConsenSys zkEVM does not use a transpiler or custom compiler to generate zk proofs for Solidity smart contracts. They utilize the compiled Solidity bytecode. This approach can reduce the surface risk of vulnerabilities and hacking attacks. Moreover, their innovative prover design ensures faster transaction speeds and lower gas costs.

In December last year, ConsenSys zkEVM launched a private testnet, which ran for three months and achieved 1.5 million transactions within the first few weeks. On March 28, ConsenSys zkEVM testnet officially went live and was renamed Linea, allowing developers to deploy and manage applications using familiar tools like MetaMask, Truffle, and Infura. Linea enables builders to create scalable dapps or migrate existing dapps without changing code or rewriting smart contracts. To simplify the building of zkEVM, Linea is now offered as the default testnet option in the MetaMask extension, allowing developers and users to quickly join the testnet and explore existing applications.

It is reported that Linea is preparing for the upcoming NFT testnet launch.

Currently, nearly 20 projects have participated in the Linea testnet, so let's follow the tutorial from Odaily Planet Daily to experience it together.

Preparation Before Interaction

  1. You need to deposit some Goerli ETH into your Metamask wallet; you can choose one of the available faucets listed here to obtain it.

  2. Add the Linea network in your Metamask wallet. You can find the data needed to add the network on this page.

Interaction Tutorial

  1. Go to Linea's official website, click on Bridge, and we will first bridge funds from the Goerli testnet to the Linea testnet.

You will be redirected to the Hop testnet, where you need to connect your wallet, then select the amount of tokens you want to exchange, confirm, and click Send. You will need to sign the transaction in your wallet.

We will try to interact with all the functions on this page. Next, you can click on Faucet to mint some USDC and HOP tokens. Then click Send to bridge the minted USDC and HOP back to the Linea testnet.

Then we will click Convert to wrap ETH into WETH.

After wrapping, use Convert to exchange WETH for hETH.

Next, we click Pool to deposit the tokens we just exchanged to add liquidity.

The appearance of the following image indicates that liquidity has been successfully added.

At this point, we have interacted with all four functions on this page.

  1. Return to Linea's website. We click on Swap.

In the MetaMask wallet, select the Linea network to connect to Uniswap, and then experience exchanging tokens. After exchanging tokens, you can click Pool to add liquidity. Currently, there are very few token pairs available for adding liquidity. If you encounter an error while adding liquidity, you can try again later.

  1. After completing all the experiences, return to Linea's website. Click on Explore to see that there are already over 20 projects on the Linea testnet. We can continue to monitor this page and select interactive projects to complete further interaction testing.
