Recently, the Web3 social hackathon co-hosted by CyberConnect and BNB Chain announced the final 23 winning teams, among which the metaverse social application Oasis Origin, based on the CyberConnect ecosystem, won the grand prize of the competition.
Oasis officially claims to have over 10 million user registrations from more than 130 countries, accessible on mobile, VR, and web platforms. Among them, Oasis Origin is the on-chain version of Oasis, allowing users to establish Web3 social relationships on the platform. Each user enters Oasis Origin by connecting their wallet and completing registration, receiving a free exclusive SBT, and their on-chain friendships will be automatically integrated into Oasis Origin through CyberConnect.
Combining Stranger Socializing and Acquaintance Socializing
On traditional social media platforms, users cannot intuitively understand each other when using stranger social platforms; as social relationships mature, acquaintance socializing may be limited by the dispersed functions of different social platforms. Oasis Origin provides a platform that allows for switching between stranger socializing and acquaintance socializing.
Oasis Origin is divided into three parts: the World, the Plaza, and the Club.
In the "World" of Oasis Origin, users can create rooms or join other rooms in the "World" to engage in voice chats, KTV entertainment, and games with strangers. If they attach YouTube or other video links, they can watch movies or live broadcasts together with users in the room, and even host small music festivals in this metaverse. This way, users can quickly establish friendships or even intimate relationships with strangers, adding fun to the process of building social connections. The "Plaza," supported by iPollo, provides a large interactive space for work-related activities, hosting events such as product launches, AMA meetings, and community exchanges, offering exclusive spaces for various projects, including Cyber Plaza, to support project teams in hosting more immersive and interactive large-scale community events. Additionally, Oasis Origin allows users to create personal "Clubs." Unlike the "World" and "Plaza," these rooms are reserved and private, requiring users to obtain the manager's consent to join. The "Club" in Oasis Origin is akin to a private channel, allowing users to socialize without interference from strangers, creating a social scene that includes only acquaintances or those forming acquaintance relationships.
Through the three modes of World, Plaza, and Club, Oasis Origin not only provides public socializing for users but also creates a private space.
Metaverse Socializing Meets the Needs of Generation Z
Unlike traditional social methods such as text, images, and videos, the user socializing in Oasis Origin is built on the metaverse, meeting the younger generation's preferences for VR and mobile device access. Users can choose different scenes for social activities, such as virtual cinemas, virtual lakes, or virtual living rooms, and popular online games like Werewolf and Goose Goose Duck can also be hosted in Oasis Origin. Furthermore, Oasis Origin offers personalized and customized display opportunities, allowing online users to transition from a flat image to a three-dimensional image, enabling users to participate in creating, building, and managing their preferred self or other external images related to themselves.
First, users can create their virtual avatars, further adjusting and optimizing their appearance through clothing, headgear, and facial customization. During the process of establishing and optimizing their virtual avatars, users can also use in-game coins to save their favorite images and mint them as NFTs, sending them to their wallets for storage. Secondly, users can adopt pets according to their preferences, including breeds like Maine Coons and Persians. When individuals appear in different metaverse social scenes in Oasis Origin, their pets will also follow them to showcase to other users present. Pets can also engage in daily conversations or play with their owners when there are no real human interactions, alleviating any potential feelings of loneliness. Additionally, Oasis Origin attracts more Generation Z users to socialize by allowing DIY customization of themes, furniture, lighting, games, and music in the "Clubs" for more personalized expression.
AI + Metaverse Creating a New Type of Socializing
Recently, Oasis Origin has integrated the GPT-4 API, aiming to create a metaverse coexisting with AI. Users can become "AI individuals" as social subjects or engage in social interactions directly with AI objects. On one hand, Oasis Origin has launched the AI Alter-Self (AIAS) feature, which learns and mimics users' dialogues and behaviors to create a metaverse individual similar to the user. Even if the user no longer logs into Oasis Origin in the future, this digital twin will continue to exist on the platform for social activities. On the other hand, the platform has introduced AI NPCs trained by GPT-4, which can generate demands based on users' behavior patterns. As training increases, these AI NPCs can produce effects similar to real users, enhancing the atmosphere and serving as alternative social objects for communication during inactive times of real players.
In addition to the above, Oasis Origin has launched multiple attractive features to ensure user retention. Users can also subscribe like traditional text and image social media; users in Oasis Origin can become acquaintances of users in private domains like WhatsApp or become KOLs in public domains like Twitter and Facebook, and they can engage in activities like playing UNO, dancing, playing billiards, or throwing darts with friends, similar to real life.
Currently, the social metaverse created by Oasis Origin has taken shape, but it is still in a very early stage. It should also be noted that even platforms like Meta, which invested heavily in building the metaverse social platform Horizon Worlds, have not achieved the expected results. Ultimately, the success of the metaverse still hinges on whether it can create an interactive experience similar to "Minecraft" or "The Legend of Zelda," with low barriers to entry and high freedom, providing opportunities to establish equal social relationships, which may be the key to long-term user attraction.
