Montana passes "mining rights" cryptocurrency bill, stripping local governments of the power to block cryptocurrency mining
ChainCatcher news, the Montana State Senate has passed a cryptocurrency "mining rights" bill aimed at protecting the rights of miners.
The bill proposes to grant the "right to mine digital assets" and prohibits charging cryptocurrency miners "discriminatory" electricity rates, as well as stripping local governments of the power to use zoning laws to prevent cryptocurrency mining. It also prohibits imposing additional taxes on the use of cryptocurrency as a payment method and classifies "digital assets," including cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), as "personal property" alongside other financial products like stocks and bonds.
The bill was passed in the state Senate on February 23 and will be submitted for approval by the House of Representatives. If passed by the House, it will become law upon being signed by Governor Greg Gianforte. (source link)
