In the 15 years since its inception, Bitcoin has rarely been used for purposes other than peer-to-peer transfers and value storage. The recent emergence of the Ordinals protocol has excited some in the Web3 community about the "new realm" of the Bitcoin NFT market.

However, compared to the thriving scene on the Ethereum chain, Bitcoin feels like a barren land, lacking any infrastructure or tools to assist us; we can only move forward barefoot, wandering in search of the next "treasure."

As the Ordinals protocol gradually gains attention, the over-the-counter trading volume of early Bitcoin NFTs (such as Ordinal punks) has surged, exciting more and more NFT enthusiasts. Although only time will tell if concerns about rising transaction fees and other short-term issues will become long-term troubles, like other NFT trends such as PFP and Free mint, these cannot hinder the spread of Bitcoin NFTs in the face of FOMO.

Thus, how to join the Ordinals ecosystem through developer tools has become the primary focus for everyone. Having tools and infrastructure means more traffic and a more orderly development of the Bitcoin NFT market.

Currently, an increasing number of builders and users are joining the Ordinals ecosystem. Below, Odaily Planet Daily will review the infrastructure and projects within the Ordinals ecosystem.

Wallets

1. Ordinals Wallet

Ordinals Wallet is a browser wallet used for sending and receiving BTC NFTs on the Ordinals protocol. Your mnemonic phrase will be generated locally and stored on your computer, encrypted in the browser. This means there is no central database that can access your mnemonic phrase. Currently, the wallet is in development, and the first successful taproot transaction (testnet) has been conducted within the wallet, allowing users to send and receive using Ordinals Wallet. The features currently under development include:

  1. Rewriting and deploying a new API for retrieving BTC NFTs from the chain to improve transfer efficiency while optimizing the UI.

  2. The next API to be built will allow users to read wallet balances and let websites know which NFTs your wallet holds.

The ultimate goal of Ordinals Wallet is to establish a marketplace.

2. Hiro Wallet

Hiro Wallet is a wallet developed on the Stacks chain, which has begun to support Bitcoin, NFTs, and Ordinals. Browser extension users can send Bitcoin from their Hiro wallet using the same keys or hardware wallet devices to manage their STX and other assets (such as BNS domain names and NFTs) across accounts. It currently supports sending to all types of Bitcoin addresses, with additional support for sending to BNS coming soon.

Users can view their BTC holdings under "Balance," and they can copy this address under "Receive," which will soon display the Taproot address for storing BTC NFTs.

With support for Ordinals, players can pay for new BTC NFTs and directly deposit them into their accounts as "collectibles" by connecting Hiro Wallet to applications like Gamma. Additionally, you will be able to share your BTC NFT personal gallery with the world through the new "Bitcoin Web3" web application.

NFT Marketplaces

1. Twetch

Twetch is a "Play to Earn" social network built on BSV that allows users to earn money by posting content. The platform also includes an NFT marketplace, a BSV wallet, and several other features such as chat and job boards. With the rise of the Ordinals protocol, Twetch has also begun to support BTC NFTs, and they plan to integrate the Ordinals ecosystem into their infrastructure.

2. Gamma.io

Gamma.io has announced the launch of a no-code Bitcoin NFT creation tool. This no-code tool allows you to create images up to 60 kb for a fixed fee of about $5 (or 21,000 sats), plus an additional 10% network fee for confirming your BTC NFT. You can choose or customize your transaction fees based on network congestion. Higher transaction fees will help you create transcripts faster.

Since Ordinals NFTs are entirely Bitcoin-native and do not involve additional blockchains or tokens, you do not need to connect a wallet to access Ordinals features on Gamma. Notably, the announcement regarding the release of this tool has also been recorded as an NFT on the Bitcoin blockchain.

DAO

OrdinallDAO is the first DAO focused on BTC inscriptions, with the mission to accelerate the new OG ecosystem of Ordinals inscriptions by leveraging the capabilities of the DAO to reduce costs and risks. Investors can diversify and reduce the risk of investment failure by investing alongside them. Currently, they are conducting fundraising activities using applications like Snapshot (for voting), Gnosis Safe (for security), and BTC multi-signature, raising $153,515 in just three days.

NFTs

1. Ordinal Punks

In homage to CryptoPunks, Ordinal Punks is a collection series consisting of 100 NFTs, each created as a 192 × 192 pixel image using the open-source algorithm of anonymous Web3 creator FlowStay. Due to Bitcoin's infrastructure requiring users to operate a full Bitcoin node to create inscriptions, bids and inquiries for Ordinal Punks are conducted on Google Sheets run by FlowStay, with the community essentially using the project creator as a custodian on Discord. A user named dingaling purchased 7 Ordinal Punks for 211 ETH.

3. Bitcoin Rocks

Bitcoin Rocks is another homage to early Ethereum NFT series, conveying the spirit of Ether Rocks, one of the first NFT collectible projects on the Ethereum chain. Created by ordrocks, the first rock in the series was minted at inscription 71, with a supply cap of 100. Some NFTs are listed for as high as 1,000 BTC.

4. Bitcoin Punks

Bitcoin Punks is the first project to successfully upload original Ethereum CryptoPunks to the Bitcoin blockchain using Ordinals, with all assets minted for free by collectors. According to their development team, they are checking the hash values of each image uploaded to Ordinals and comparing them with the original 10,000 Crypto Punk images. Links pointing to Bitcoin Punks must be inscriptions that appear for the first time and must also contain the corresponding hash values on the Ordinals protocol.

5. Timechain Collectibles

The Series 1 Timepieces in the Timechain Collectibles series is a limited collection containing only 21 Ordinals, depicting various forms of clocks: cyberpunk watches, pocket watches, ancient calendars, etc., minted on January 30, 2023. The entire series is based on the genesis inscription at 356, with the rarity levels in the series as follows: eight pocket watches, three ancient sundials, two watches, two wall clocks, two cyberpunk alarm clocks, two clock towers, one monolith, and one grandfather clock.
