OpenAI CEO's Worldcoin plans to raise up to $120 million at a valuation of $3 billion

According to ChainCatcher, citing informed sources from The Block, Worldcoin, the cryptocurrency company founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, is in discussions with investors, including sovereign wealth funds, for a new round of financing. Informed sources say that Worldcoin aims to raise up to $120 million at a valuation of $3 billion, and this round of financing will include both equity and token financing.

Previously reported, on March 23, 2022, Worldcoin was seeking to complete a $100 million financing at a $3 billion valuation, which would be conducted through the sale of tokens, with existing investors a16z and Khosla Ventures participating in this round.

According to cryptocurrency data platform RootData, Worldcoin announced in June 2021 that it had completed a $25 million financing round, which was participated in by Coinbase Ventures, a16z, Day One Ventures, among others, with angel investors including LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman.
