The Bitcoin wallet of the cryptocurrency exchange platform QuadrigaCX suddenly transferred about 104 BTC after being dormant for three years
According to ChainCatcher news, on-chain analyst ZachXBT disclosed on social media that the defunct Canadian cryptocurrency exchange QuadrigaCX's Bitcoin wallet suddenly transferred about 104 BTC after being dormant for three years. This currently involves 5 addresses, of which 69 BTC (approximately 1.1 million USD) have been sent to the mixer Wasabi.
Historical data shows that the aforementioned addresses have had no transactions since February 2019. The QuadrigaCX bankruptcy committee also stated that the trustee, Ernst & Young, has not moved any funds, and it remains unclear who executed the related transactions.
It is reported that QuadrigaCX founder Gerald Cotten mysteriously died while on his honeymoon with his wife in December 2018. As he was the only person with access to the cryptocurrency private keys of the exchange, this led to the freezing of approximately 250 million USD in assets for 115,000 users at that time.
