Report: Companies from the United States, South Korea, and China rank in the top three for global metaverse patent applications

ChainCatcher news, according to a joint survey by Nikkei Asia and research firm Cyber Creative Institute, which assessed about 20 categories of patents related to the metaverse, VR, and AR, among the 7,760 applications submitted since 2016, companies from the United States, South Korea, and China rank in the top three globally for metaverse patent applications. Companies from the United States account for 56% of the patents filed, South Korea for 19%, and China for 12%, followed by companies from Japan at 8%.

In addition, according to company statistics, South Korean multinational LG Electronics has become the company with the most metaverse patents filed since 2016, followed by Samsung Electronics. American companies Meta, Microsoft, Intel, and Apple, as well as China's Huawei and Japan's Sony, also made it to the list of the top 20 metaverse patent applicants. (Forkast)
