ChainCatcher News, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the seizure of $3.36 billion in cryptocurrency related to fraud involving the dark web Silk Road, with defendant JAMES ZHONG admitting to committing wire fraud in September 2012. This is the largest cryptocurrency seizure in the history of the U.S. Department of Justice.

In November 2021, U.S. law enforcement seized over 50,676 bitcoins hidden in devices at JAMES ZHONG's home. JAMES ZHONG has now admitted to illegally obtaining bitcoins from the dark web Silk Road in 2012. (Source link)
