The social track is bound to become an opportunity for the large-scale adoption of Web3. Which projects in the Web3 social graph protocol Lens ecosystem are worth paying attention to?

Written by: Karen, Foresight News

The Web3 social track is gradually emerging, with social applications and tools based on the decentralized social graph protocol Lens Protocol springing up like mushrooms after rain.

Lens Protocol is built on Polygon and launched by the lending protocol Aave, serving as a composable decentralized trading graph protocol in the form of "Profile as NFT," allowing any DApp to integrate. It has achieved user control and ownership of data, and supports content publishing, sharing, commenting, and NFT sales through modular settings.

Currently, Lens Protocol is evolving into the infrastructure for social graphs, with dozens of projects built on it. This article organizes nearly 30 projects in the Lens ecosystem by categories such as social, tools, and discovery/search.

Notable applications in the Lens ecosystem include the decentralized social media application Lenster, LensFrens which recommends Profiles based on users' Web3 footprints, Share-to-Earn social application Phaver, link trend ranking Refract, and decentralized "YouTube" Lenstube. There are also relatively innovative projects like the time auction network Soclly for creators or professionals, Clipto providing celebrity video customization services, and AI technology-based NFT image generator LensAI.

Summary of Lens ecosystem projects, illustration by: Foresight News

Regarding Lens data usage, there are currently over 90,000 addresses that have applied for Lens Profiles, with a total of 390,000 posts published. However, user engagement is not very strong, with each Profile only publishing an average of 4.25 posts and receiving no more than 2 comments. Some applications may have been neglected in recent months.

Posts support not only images and GIFs but also audio and video uploads.

Additionally, when posting on Lenster, users can choose the audience, such as followers, followed users, friends of friends, and everyone, and can also decide whether to allow others to bookmark their posts. Users can set fees for post bookmarks and share costs with post recommenders. Lenster is also one of the 12 winners of the LFGrow hackathon.

CultivatorDAO is built by Lens and community developers, and Lens Protocol has introduced CultivatorDAO multiple times on Twitter.

CultivatorDAO operates at the middleware layer, but users can always directly access any content on the decentralized protocol. Those appointed as initial Cultivators will be responsible for maintaining two lists: a "spam" list and a "verified" list. Cultivators will receive proposals from data providers containing accounts or methods to be added to either list. The DAO will vote to decide whether to accept the proposal. According to previously passed proposals, the initial Cultivators include Aave Companies data scientist pealco.lens, Lenster chief maintainer yoginth.lens, and three other members.

This means that ordinary users will have more control over the content they see, as they can flag or report any content they believe violates community guidelines. Additionally, CultivatorDAO is also forkable, meaning the Lens community can fork the DAO and create their own version to meet their specific content moderation needs.
