MetaBlox, building Web3 Wi-Fi OpenRoaming infrastructure
Author: MetaBlox
Recently, the Global Wireless Conference (WGCEMEA) was officially held offline in Amsterdam, Netherlands from October 17 to 20, 2022. In addition to well-known traditional communication giants such as Intel, CISCO, and global operators (AT&T, BT, Boingo, COMCAST, etc.), there was also a new face from Web3: MetaBlox.
The topics discussed at the conference not only covered a series of issues such as: Wi-Fi and smart homes; developing personal 5G and Wi-Fi 6E services; the integration of 5G services and Wi-Fi, but also exchanged views on the current uneven distribution of resources in the communication industry, poor user experience, and personal privacy data leakage. The conference concluded that Wi-Fi 6 and 5G, as the two pillars of the communication industry, should complement each other in the future and broaden application scenarios.
Intel believes that the integration of Wi-Fi networks and cellular networks at customer terminals is an inevitable trend in the future communication industry.
According to data from Markets and Markets, due to continuous investment in Wi-Fi in Asia-Pacific countries, the global Wi-Fi market size is expected to grow from $9.4 billion in 2020 to $25.2 billion by 2026. Benefiting from the gradual expansion of the Wi-Fi market, it is estimated that by 2025, the number of global IoT device connections will reach 25 billion.
Dr. Yan, a technical advisor for MetaBlox, also believes that the future Wi-Fi market is undoubtedly huge, as Wi-Fi networks currently account for 74% of global smartphone traffic. High deployment costs, excessive energy consumption, and poor signal coverage are just some of the factors that make the current deployment of 5G networks precarious. On the other hand, the emergence of Wi-Fi 6, 6E, and 7 has significantly improved the service ceiling of Wi-Fi networks, enabling them to provide a user experience comparable to that of 5G networks.
In response to the industry's demand for how to use Wi-Fi Open Roaming to accelerate seamless adaptation of cellular traffic offloading and enhance user experience, MetaBlox offers a complete set of solutions that combine traditional communication technology with the decentralized spirit of Web3.
As the only Web3 project at the conference, MetaBlox aims to create a global decentralized Wi-Fi Open Roaming network. It is well known that traditional Web2 Wi-Fi networks pose challenges for users, not only facing incomplete Wi-Fi signal coverage but also bearing the risk of personal privacy and data leakage during use. The emergence of MetaBlox not only provides a new operational role for Wi-Fi Open Roaming but also broadens the existing Wi-Fi network service scope. At the conference, well-known companies such as Cisco, Intel, Dish Networks, Deutsche Telekom, Single Digits, and GlobalReach confirmed their active participation in the development and testing work of the Wireless Broadband Alliance decentralized wireless roaming working group led by MetaBlox.
Due to the deep involvement of the community and users in the deployment process of network nodes, MetaBlox's decentralized Wi-Fi Open Roaming network has a wider signal coverage compared to traditional Wi-Fi networks. Moreover, in terms of user privacy, the increasingly mature DID and VC technologies in blockchain ensure that user data is truly "available but invisible." The dual insurance model of DID+VC fully respects and protects the personal privacy information and data of MetaBlox users in the new decentralized Wi-Fi Open Roaming service.
In the current era where the Web3 slogan resonates, the IoT and network communication fields appear much more low-key compared to the high attention on popular tracks like NFTs and the metaverse.
However, as the Wi-Fi service is most closely related to users' daily lives, leading companies in the industry such as Intel and Amazon have already begun to prepare for advanced deployment in the Web3 field. This global wireless conference not only provided a valuable opportunity for communication industry participants to communicate and exchange ideas but also pointed the way for future industry development.
As a company deeply engaged in blockchain technology and the Web3 field for many years, MetaBlox not only provided unique ideas for the upgrade and transformation of the traditional network industry at this conference but aims to help users build a more Web3-oriented "Build by users, build for users" Wi-Fi Open Roaming network.
