The President of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority: Hong Kong will start testing e-HKD from the fourth quarter
Chain Catcher News, Hong Kong Monetary Authority President Eddie Yue stated that the HKMA will launch a series of pilot programs with banks and technology companies to test the digital currency (e-HKD) starting in the fourth quarter. These trials aim to find the best use cases for CBDC in Hong Kong.
Eddie Yue said in an interview, "Hong Kong's electronic retail payment system is already very diverse, very convenient, and very cheap. If we want the public to adopt e-HKD, we need to have a suitable use case that can demonstrate the advantages of CBDC, whether it is more convenient or cheaper." (South China Morning Post)
