Today, Ethereum scaling solution provider Offchain Labs announced the official launch of the Arbitrum One mainnet beta on the official blog, having removed the whitelist mechanism and opened all projects to users, while also releasing an asset bridging tutorial.
Offchain Labs stated that since opening Arbitrum One to developers in May, they have sent mainnet access instructions to over 400 teams, with dozens of teams completing deployments. Currently, Balancer and MCDEX have publicly announced their support for Arbitrum.
"While today's release is an important milestone, Arbitrum One is still in the testing phase. We will closely monitor the release and maintain the ability to upgrade quickly, even pausing the system if necessary," Offchain Labs said, noting that Arbitrum One will be referred to as a beta until it achieves full decentralization.
At the same time, to ensure system stability, Arbitrum One currently has a speed limit of 80,000 arbgas per second, roughly matching the current capacity of Ethereum L1. Over time, the speed limit will be increased and performance improved. Additionally, Offchain Labs has launched a $1 million bug bounty program for Arbitrum One on Immunefi.
Due to previous concerns from multiple projects regarding Optimism's favoritism towards a few projects like Uniswap, Offchain Labs specifically stated in the blog that the launch of Arbitrum One is a fair launch and will not prioritize certain projects at the expense of others.
Hours before the official release of the mainnet beta, Offchain Labs also announced a $120 million Series B equity financing round. This round of financing is valued at $1.2 billion, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Polychain Capital, Alameda Research, Ribbit Capital, Redpoint Ventures, Pantera Capital, and Mark Cuban.
Offchain Labs co-founder Steven Goldfeder stated that the funds will be used to expand the team and research and development. Currently, Offchain Labs has 14 employees and will primarily recruit more talent in engineering fields in the future.
"Arbitrum will not issue tokens in the short term, and the near-term vision does not include a token plan. The team will avoid tokens for incentive programs; the $120 million Series B financing is purely equity financing. However, a DAO may consider tokenization in the future," Steven Goldfeder added.
