Today, Twitter's decentralized social network bluesky announced that it is exploring the details to establish a new bluesky entity that will operate independently of Twitter, marking a key step in the development of bluesky.
Previously, in 2019, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced the establishment of the BlueSky project, aimed at creating a set of community platform standards with consensus, decentralizing the power of highly centralized platforms at this stage. "BlueSky will create an open Twitter protocol, allowing users to contribute data and access data, rather than relying on centralized services that host content on their websites," Jack Dorsey stated in an interview last year.
Since February 2020, the BlueSky team has invited practitioners from various fields within the decentralized community to engage in online discussions and collaborations regarding the "purpose and direction of bluesky's services," and earlier this year, they released a comprehensive 60-page review document outlining the components of the decentralized social ecosystem, including protocols, applications, and related subfields.
Additionally, this report covers how these systems handle key social network elements such as discoverability, moderation, and privacy, as well as how services based on these systems can scale, interoperate, and generate revenue.
"We are trying to fulfill our responsibility by funding an initiative around open decentralized standards for social media. Our goal is to become the client for that standard, serving as the public dialogue layer for the internet," Jack Dorsey stated on Twitter earlier this year.
In the wave of decentralization, decentralized media has become a track that more and more giants are trying to lay out to protect users' data sovereignty.
Recently, the leading DeFi protocol Aave also proposed to develop a decentralized social media platform, stating, "Users will be able to tokenize the content they publish and manage the rules of the network," said Aave's founder and CEO Stani Kulechov.
