Dialogue with Deeper Network: Analyzing New Paths for Decentralized Privacy Internet

Recently, the airdrop event for the Genesis Nodes of the decentralized privacy network Deeper Network will officially commence, promising to introduce a new generation of privacy features to the internet.

Stella Shen, the market partner of Deeper Network, shared detailed insights on topics such as Deeper's hardware privacy protection solutions, the characteristics and advantages of the PoCr consensus mechanism, and future development plans. This is believed to help you gain a deeper understanding of the decentralized privacy internet.

Chain Catcher: Could you briefly introduce the Deeper project and the background of the entire team?

Stella: Deeper Network officially started operating in September 2018 and registered as a company in May 2019. At the beginning, the team focused mainly on technology development and hardware design. Thanks to the achievements of founder Russell in the traditional cybersecurity field, we quickly attracted the attention of several Silicon Valley investors. Our CTO Joe is a leader in early smart contract adoption, and the two of them led a team of developers specializing in blockchain and security development.

Our Chief Marketing Officer Eric was previously a core member of CMC, responsible for branding and expanding the Deeper project. Currently, I am the Marketing VP of the Deeper team, mainly responsible for the market strategy deployment and promotion of the Deeper team. Building the Deeper Network brand and expanding the influence of our project is my primary task.

Deeper Network is committed to building a truly decentralized privacy internet and secure gateway, aiming to provide a better internet experience for every household and become a portal for users to enter Web 3.0. From this perspective, Deeper Network shares a common goal with Polkadot, which is to bring Web 3.0 to every household.

Our flagship product, Deeper Connect, consists of a decentralized privacy network. Users can use it to enjoy a secure online environment without any censorship. In the long run, users can view Deeper Connect not only as a gateway for DApps on Deeper Chain but also as a gateway for DApps on other chains. In other words, Deeper Connect is the gateway to Web 3.0.

On one hand, we can gain users from the Polkadot ecosystem; on the other hand, our users (not only from the blockchain world but also from the non-blockchain world) can join the Polkadot ecosystem, making it more prosperous. Speaking of the Polkadot ecosystem, we have also received support from the Web3 Foundation, obtained grant funding, and after rigorous selection by Parity officials, we stood out among many projects and were officially selected for the Substrate Builders Program, being a leading project in the key infrastructure track based on Substrate.

Moreover, we stood out among 1 million crowdfunding products on the globally renowned tech crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, ranking in the Top 20.

At the same time, we exceeded the crowdfunding target on the Taiwanese crowdfunding platform FLYingv. We can say that we started in North America, and our entire product line has now covered over 200 countries or regions. Recently, we even set a sales record of 5,000 units in 7 days. After the efforts of our marketing team, we have successfully entered the Japanese market, and we believe that soon everyone will witness the growing influence of Deeper Network across the Asia-Pacific region.

So, as our vision states, Deeper Network combines blockchain, cybersecurity, and the sharing economy to create a global peer-to-peer network, supporting real internet users and paving the way for the next generation of the internet.

Chain Catcher: Can you talk about the economic model of the DPR token and the development plans for the next year?

Stella: The total supply limit of DPR is 10 billion, of which 6 billion is allocated as block rewards. The initial block reward is 90 DPR, and the number of DPR created per block will decrease over time. In terms of micropayments, we use part of the treasury to develop the ecosystem and part to repurchase and burn DPR, while the treasury is governed by the community through decentralized governance.

Currently, the hardware development of Deeper has entered its final stages, and we have made new upgrades and optimizations for software development, focusing on fixing tunnel-related issues and optimizing the UI. We have also completed the design of the PoCr consensus incentive mechanism and credit score growth mechanism, as well as the design of the token conversion bridge between ERC20 and the mainnet, which has entered a comprehensive testing phase.

Regarding our plans for the next year, we believe our focus will be on launching the Deeper Network mainnet and the Genesis Nodes. In the next year to several years, Deeper Network will expand rapidly worldwide. We expect to have over 100,000 nodes by the end of this year and 1,000,000 nodes by the end of 2022. The more nodes in the network, the higher the efficiency and security for everyone in the network.

Chain Catcher: What are the features and functions of Deeper's hardware devices? How do they differ from traditional firewalls or routers?

Stella: Deeper Connect has powerful features in privacy and security. As a plug-and-play product, Deeper Connect is very compact and portable. It only needs to be connected to a home router, allowing users to access Web 3.0 seamlessly.

Deeper Connect integrates multiple functions, eliminating the need for multiple hardware devices to solve the problems faced when participating in the internet. Additionally, Deeper Connect has an enterprise-grade secure network system built-in, protecting users' home or office networks from any potential cybersecurity threats, especially unauthorized surveillance and personal privacy leaks. The system also blocks ads and malware, giving users complete control over the information they want to share with marketers and advertisers. It provides multi-layered security protection for devices connected to the network.

Deeper Connect encrypts files three times and offers seven layers of firewalls, protecting users' IoT devices and any devices linked to the network via WiFi. This firewall also filters all types of malware that users may encounter online.

Deeper Network is at the forefront of the blockchain industry. Deeper Connect not only provides advanced technology but also achieves plug-and-play functionality, allowing users to easily set it up and enjoy its features. Many other products based on traditional technology can only provide one service, and past technologies can no longer effectively address current issues. Deeper Connect presents an excellent solution.

Chain Catcher: How can users of Deeper Network obtain DPR tokens? What benefits do holding DPR tokens bring?

Stella: DPR can be earned by sharing network bandwidth and will also be used when consuming network bandwidth. The traditional P2P network model lacks effective economic incentives, leading to an imbalance between bandwidth usage and consumption in practical applications. Compared to traditional P2P networks, DPR incentivizes users to actively contribute bandwidth to the network, making the entire network more robust and efficient for everyone.

1). DPR can be used as a tool to enhance users' credit scores, which in turn allows users to stake on Deeper Chain to receive higher mainnet rewards. Our Genesis Nodes will launch this feature.

2). DPR can be used to purchase Deeper nodes on demand as a cloud firewall to hide their IP addresses and prevent various network attacks. Websites can be hosted on Deeper's network infrastructure without worrying about being scanned, blocked, or attacked.

3). DPR can also be used to update the AtomOS operating system, update the database of threatening URLs, and provide security subscription services.

4). Users can also earn DPR by contributing to network security, such as discovering and reporting malicious activities on the network.

5). Third-party developers need to use DPR; they must stake a certain amount of DPR to launch their DApps in the Deeper Network ecosystem. At the same time, third-party DApps also need to accept DPR as a payment method for services.

6). DPR can be used to anonymously purchase decentralized domain names on Deeper Chain. Domain name owners will have complete ownership of their domains instead of leasing them through ICANN. Domain name owners can also use DPR to obtain their digital signature keys, fundamentally eliminating the need for third-party CAs. DPR can also be earned by becoming a resource provider on the Deeper decentralized CDN network, where users as nodes can provide faster access to cached content for other users.

Finally, we will develop more use cases for DPR, such as the ability to create a decentralized advertising ecosystem using DPR and allowing users to create their own advertising markets.

Chain Catcher: How many service nodes does Deeper Network currently have worldwide? How many network tunnels can Deeper Connect users establish to different servers simultaneously? Can these numbers increase?

Stella: Currently, Deeper Network has over 20,000 nodes in more than 200 countries or regions worldwide. With the opening of the Genesis Nodes whitelist on July 27 and the mainnet launch at the end of the third quarter, we are expanding more nodes globally.

We expect to reach 100,000 nodes by the end of 2021. By the end of 2022, the number of nodes will reach 1 million or even several million. The more nodes in Deeper Network, the more secure and stable the network will be.

Regarding how many network tunnels users can establish to different servers simultaneously, each user device in a region can choose to establish network tunnels with different Deeper devices in that region. During use, only one device will be active, while the other tunnels serve as backups. Technically, these numbers can increase, but the necessity is low, as adding more will not improve network performance; it will only serve as a backup.

Chain Catcher: What advantages does the PoCr consensus mechanism used by Deeper Network have compared to other consensus mechanisms currently on the market, and what benefits does it bring to the user community?

Stella: PoCr, short for Proof of Credit, is a decentralized consensus mechanism unique to Deeper that can solve trust issues. It is developed based on PoW and PoS, addressing the shortcomings of consensus mechanisms like PoW and PoS. The table below compares various consensus mechanisms, clearly showing the differences between PoCr and other consensus mechanisms:

The PoCr mechanism we advocate creates a new domain, where the reward distribution for network resource contributions is more environmentally friendly, fair, and highly decentralized. The PoCr mechanism allows users in the ecosystem to no longer be rich and wealthy; anyone can participate in the network fairly and earn rewards by staking their hard-earned credit values. This is a consideration that many past incentive mechanisms have not had, and we have already put it into action.

Chain Catcher: Since Deeper is a consensus mechanism based on credit, how is credit accumulated in the Deeper system?

Stella:

1) Currently, the DEEPER network increases credit scores based on shared bandwidth. Credit scores are accumulated by continuously sharing specified bandwidth within a designated time.

2) During the credit score accumulation process, if the specified bandwidth cannot be shared within the designated time (due to disconnection or other behaviors that prevent normal online status), credit scores cannot be accumulated.

3) The current rule is that sharing 10MB of bandwidth continuously within 2 days can accumulate 1 credit score. The accumulation rules may be adjusted based on actual conditions in the future.

4) Within the designated time, users can accumulate a maximum of 1 credit score, meaning whether a user shares 10MB or 1TB of bandwidth, it will still be 1 credit score.

It is important to emphasize that only by becoming a node in the blockchain network can users accumulate credit scores through continuous online status. Nodes not in the blockchain network can only enjoy the network firewall and powerful DPN functions of the device.

Chain Catcher: Yesterday, Deeper launched the Genesis Nodes airdrop event. Can you introduce what this event is about and how to participate in the Genesis Nodes?

Stella: The Genesis Nodes will mark the beginning of incentivizing users to contribute bandwidth to Deeper Network. Genesis Nodes users will be the first batch of users on Deeper Chain. To celebrate this milestone event, we will select the top 1,000 users who stake the highest amount of DPR from the whitelist to receive limited edition 24K gold-plated collectible devices. After the first phase is completed in 48 hours, we will announce future arrangements and details for the Genesis Nodes.

Users who want to participate in the Genesis Nodes need to be on the whitelist, which is open to everyone. As long as users have an address where we can deliver the device, they can participate in the Genesis Nodes whitelist.

The whitelist requires the following information:

Name, phone number (must include country code), delivery address (one device per household), ERC20 wallet address (cannot be a centralized exchange wallet and must be the same wallet used for staking), and choose the credit level you wish to obtain, which will determine your mainnet rewards and the amount of DPR required for staking. Each person can only stake once in the Genesis Nodes. This includes all future Genesis phases. Repeated applications will result in disqualification.

Once users are on the whitelist, applicants will be able to stake DPR when the platform opens. Staking DPR will increase users' credit scores and help them earn higher returns. The chart below shows the amount of DPR required for each corresponding credit level:

Once staking begins, users will be able to stake their DPR. The initial phase will allow the first 1,000 users to receive the free 24K gold-plated Genesis Nodes device.

Future action phases will be announced after the initial phase is completed.

The chart below shows the credit levels, the amount of DPR required for each credit level, and the mainnet rewards earned for contributions to the network at each credit level. In this Genesis event, to reward our Genesis users, we have decided to include invitation rewards in the annualized yield. This means that whether users refer others or not will not affect the final annualized yield. Users can stake up to 468,000 DPR to receive the highest mainnet rewards and can invite others to participate in our project as needed.

As Genesis Nodes users, there is a possibility of earning 400,000+ DPR, and the complete details of the mainnet rewards will be released soon. With the development of our ecosystem and the increase in the value of DPR, this is a very good opportunity for users.

Chain Catcher: Finally, please tell us about Deeper's future development plans.

Stella: In the remaining months of this year, we expect to launch two new products to the market. We will release a WiFi dongle (portable WiFi adapter), which allows our devices to be used without needing a WiFi router.

Additionally, we are eagerly anticipating the launch of Deeper Connect Pico in the market by the end of this year. This will be our smallest and most convenient device to date and will provide WiFi support.

In addition to continuing to improve the existing platform and interface, we will enrich our ecosystem by providing services including DApp stores, DeFi products, NFT stores, e-commerce, e-services, and e-advertising. Users can participate in the ecosystem without third-party verification.

The scalability and imagination of Deeper Network in Web 3.0 are limitless. We are not only committed to creating a fairer, more private, and secure ecosystem but also providing users with a more inclusive internet environment, giving users the freedom they deserve to explore the internet without barriers, earn rewards through the internet, and consume freely.
