Analyzing the three differences between Deeper Network and Orchid Protocol
This article is from Deeper Network.
Deeper Network was established in 2018, focusing on decentralized network security hardware devices, integrating network security technology, shared economy, and blockchain technology, aiming to make personal privacy, security, and a fair internet accessible to every household in communities around the world. Its team is located in Silicon Valley, USA, composed of experts in network security and distributed systems.
Deeper Network has three main advantages compared to the Orchid Protocol, namely the advancement in technology, product innovation, and business model.
1. Advancement in Technology
The advancement in technology is reflected in three aspects: network security technology, network sharing technology, and blockchain technology.
Network security technology is Deeper's core competitiveness and an indispensable foundation for network sharing. Network security technology ensures network sharing, allowing users to share their bandwidth while facing the risks that come with sharing. For example: their IP being used for illegal downloads of copyrighted BT resources, their IP being used to upload or download child pornography, or their IP being used to conduct cyberattacks against critical national network infrastructure.
Deeper possesses a seven-layer network security technology that can protect users' networks from illegal use at various levels, allowing users to confidently join Deeper's network. Without security, there is no sharing. Deeper's world-class network security technology is a core competitiveness that is difficult for other competitors to reach.
Network security technology brings richer application scenarios; Deeper's products are not just network sharing devices but also network security devices, providing users with DPN (Decentralized Private Network) services as well as enterprise-level network security protection and privacy safeguards.
Deeper's shared network technology is implemented using the self-developed Trident Protocol, which is specifically designed for P2P mesh networks and features five characteristics: NAT traversal, protocol obfuscation, traffic mixing, random ports, and congestion control. The Trident Protocol ensures that any node in the Deeper Network can securely, quickly, and fully connect with nodes around the world.
Unlike the Trident Protocol, the Orchid Protocol uses the WebRTC protocol, which was originally designed for audio or video transmission between peers, not for decentralized network transmission. The WebRTC protocol has distinct characteristics, making it easy to identify and block. It requires support from a central server to function properly, which contradicts the nature of decentralized networks. The WebRTC protocol lacks congestion control, and its performance cannot meet users' real needs in cross-firewall, national, and continental network communications.
Additionally, the Orchid Protocol employs unidirectional routing, resembling traditional VPNs, providing users with only a one-way network channel. However, Deeper's intelligent routing technology can automatically select the best path while users access different resources.
Regarding blockchain technology, Deeper's self-developed e² chain is specifically designed for communication between massive distributed nodes. The two-layer structure design allows e² to achieve a processing speed of 100,000 transactions per second. At the same time, Deeper's proposed Proof of Credit consensus algorithm enables each node to not only share bandwidth for profit but also to fairly participate in the blockchain consensus process to earn mining rewards. The blockchain component of the Orchid Protocol merely serves as a dAPP on Ethereum. The currently high transaction fees and extremely slow processing speed of Ethereum are not suitable as a foundational platform for massive micropayments.
Deeper Network is a complete ecosystem, featuring user-friendly gateway nodes, a globally distributed secure sharing network, an exclusively developed blockchain, and an infinite application ceiling for the dAPP marketplace. The Orchid Protocol is merely a dAPP application. In the future, Deeper's dAPP marketplace may even feature multiple applications similar to the Orchid Protocol.
2. Advancement in Products
Deeper's products include both hardware and software, with hardware products capable of running 24×7, providing stable resources for the shared network. The products offered by the Orchid Protocol are in the form of a mobile app, which is not suitable as a network sharing node due to the unstable network connection environment of mobile devices and battery limitations. For the Orchid Protocol's network to function smoothly, a large number of cloud nodes need to be manually deployed to provide services, which is no different from traditional VPN technology, merely applying the concept of blockchain.
Deeper devices function at the overall network level. A single Deeper device can serve all connected devices in a household network, including phones, computers, and IoT devices. The functionality of the Orchid Protocol is limited to mobile devices. If users have multiple phones, they must install the Orchid Protocol app on each one. The app cannot be migrated to devices other than phones.
3. Advancement in Business Model
The advancement of Deeper's business model is reflected in two aspects.
First, the market is broader; Deeper's philosophy prioritizes user experience. Users do not need any technical background, do not need to understand the concept or existence of blockchain, and do not even need to know what VPNs or firewalls are to benefit from the product's seamless operation. Deeper's hardware achieves true plug-and-play functionality, making complex network security accessible to a wide range of non-technical users, creating a green home network and setting a precedent. The complex onboarding process of the Orchid Protocol limits its user base to knowledgeable players in the cryptocurrency space. In the future, the scale of users will not be on the same level.
Second, the product's profit model is more diverse. Deeper has exclusive hardware, software, and blockchain, leading to a diversified profit model. Deeper's hardware is highly optimized, allowing costs to be reduced to $5, targeting the high-end market to directly earn hardware fees or provide hardware subsidies to expand network nodes, which competitors cannot counter. At the same time, Deeper can earn revenue from operating system upgrades, security database updates, and software service subscriptions.
In addition, the e² public chain and PoC consensus mechanism built on a massive user base ensure high transaction processing frequency and low transaction gas fees, benefiting dAPP development and distribution. Deeper can also profit from dAPP transaction fees and promote the demand and appreciation of the DPR token through dAPPs.
